Lot of individuals in business communities think that digital and internet marketing are the same. Well, if you are a well-informed business owner or marketer, you are aware that this conception is not quite true as the two are different animals. The truth is, while both use internet technology to market products and/or services, they do not mean the same thing.

So, let's dig deeper why digital marketing is not equal to internet marketing

Instead of explaining the main difference between the two, I chose to share some insights about the topic from Alex Chris because his explanation about their difference is worth-sharing. In his article he has emphasized that "digital marketing is a broad term that describes a set of marketing processes that utilize all available digital channels to promote a product or service or build a digital brand." And then he added that Internet marketing is "a subset of digital marketing. It is in fact the most important component since the majority of digital marketing activities fall within the boundaries of Internet marketing."

In other words, digital marketing has a wider scope as it leverages more marketing platforms compared to Internet marketing that focuses of conventional platforms - search engines and websites. The digital marketing implements the Internet marketing techniques plus more approaches that include the use of mobile platforms and social strategies. Indeed, digital marketing has taken online marketing to the next level - wider reach and more segments of the market can be targeted.

Digital marketing - leveraging the mobile platforms

As I have said, with digital marketing, reaching business prospects has become more promising as marketers can expand their target by including the mobile audiences. This is important especially today that more and more individuals are utilizing mobile devices both for business and personal use. As a matter of fact, several studies have revealed that there is an exponential growth in number of mobile users worldwide and this trend means more business potentials, beneficial to both marketers and prospects - both can have access to important information even when they are mobile or away from office. Indeed, 27/7 connectivity to the virtual world has reached to its optimum potentials with digital marketing.

Digital marketing and the power of social platforms

We acknowledge the fact that search engine marketing, PPC advertising as well as website development for the conventional desktop computer platform play a big role in online marketing success. But because of digital marketing techniques, which include social media campaign across different devices - desktop and mobile - we have opened up a more fascinating opportunity for business success. With social media campaign, marketers have reached another stage of online marketing landscape.
