Essential MLM Secrets That Can Make or Break Your Network Building Efforts and Outcomes

By Rick Thompson

If you have been following the data, I'm sure you understand by now that it's a pretty much established reality that 9 out of 10 small businesses will fail in the first two years of starting up. It's a gloomy picture I know; and I'm not saying this to worsen whatever fears you might currently have in trying it out or sticking it out in business, but hey, numbers do not lie, right?

And while -- due to a wide variety of advantages over traditional business models -- the prospects of MLM business success are hundreds of times more positive, the reality is a great many individuals still fail even in multilevel marketing companies; and no MLM secrets I could possibly tell you can alter that fact! What I can do, though, is share with you a few of the most effective secrets in MLM that I know will considerably raise your chances of success in this industry.

There are numerous approaches we could possibly go over that will optimize these chances, but today I want to concentrate specifically on one: Your people strategy; more specifically, exactly how you should approach recruiting and working with the people in your network. There really is no other business model that's as people-oriented as MLM, and if you can get this part right, then the stage is well set; and you'll be well on your way to attaining the wonderful success that I know is possible in network marketing. Without further ado, here are my MLM secrets for you right now.

Let's start with yourself first. Invest in yourself; invest in learning; invest in personal growth. I understand this might not look like a "secret" at all, but you would be amazed from how many people this truism is hidden. There are no blinding insights here; it's really easy to understand (just not as easy to practice). Individual development will help you overcome many of the anxieties that have been known to hold people back from accomplishing the best that they could possibly ever accomplish in MLM; and will prepare you to take on the downline organization that will be looking up to you for guidance and leadership.

Your sponsor can make or break your company. I have actually seen it happen numerous times before. Logical grownups join silly MLM companies just because absolute strangers, relatives, or friends with no proven qualifications whatsoever ask them to do so -- hell, some prospects will also leave their jobs to follow failures with zero business experience into really shady businesses.

MLM is a team sport. Without access to a successful coach and competent sponsor, no team can possibly contend -- no matter how many individual stars are on the team. Without the presence of reliable mentoring you can not "luck" your way to $ 150K a month, despite how much skill you have.

A chicken will never become an eagle. This little piece of wisdom is something I learned early on when I was just beginning in MLM, and it's served me tremendously well over the years! One of the greatest mistakes numerous network marketers make -- some continuing well past their rookie years -- is to concentrate on recruiting the wrong kinds of people -- the chickens -- into their company and hoping that they will in some way be able to turn them into the mighty eagle at some point.

Sadly though, the reality remains that you may take a big sign that states "This is a mango tree" and hang it on an orange tree for years, but guess what? Five years down the road and it's still an orange tree! If you wish to develop a successful MLM company, focus on the eagles!

It's all about leverage. In networking terms, leverage is all about developing a downline organization that allows you to earn 1 % off 100 people rather than 100 % off your own efforts. This is where the riches of multilevel marketing truly come from. Many online marketers, however, constantly fall into one of the most typical traps of network marketing there is: The management trap.

By failing to develop a network of self-sufficient downline members, and, instead, having members who are totally dependent on you for every little thing, you lose all leverage and your business becomes just another job in management. This, of course, is highly contingent on whether your team is filled with chickens or eagles! Do not fall into the trap of being a collector of individuals, like those pins people collect on Pinterest; there really is no point in having a substantial organization that you can't have any leverage from and which, in fact, does the exact opposite!

Finally, it's a numbers game. Like in all numbers games, the more you do a certain thing, the better your possibilities are of attaining the desired outcome. Whatever you find that works well to facilitate your objectives, discover a method to scale it by doing even more of it. Whether it's a style of learning that accelerates your learning curve, or a particular way of advertising that ends up getting you more eagles than chickens into your company, then do it again and do it again. You will just do better and better, and the Law of Averages will continue to work in your favor.
