Internet Marketing Mistakes to Avoid

By John Michaels

Pre-internet days often require entrepreneurs to spend more time and effort in marketing strategies. This is especially true if business owners are eyeing in going global. Good thing, the internet arrived and paved way to this whole revolutionary world of internet marketing.

Some of the known internet marketing practices include SEO/SEM (Search Engine Optimization/Search Engine Marketing), article marketing, social media marketing, email marketing, and PPC (Pay-Per-Click). However, not all those who engage in these internet marketing practices succeed due to one or a few factors. Ensure achievement of desired goals by avoiding the following internet marketing mistakes:

1. Poor content

Some internet marketers think that one way to get good ranking in the search engine is to publish as many articles as they could disregarding quality. This is a wrong mindset as web users are looking for relevance of your content rather than the volume. So invest your time and effort in coming up with well-written articles.

2. Spamming

When you send unsolicited emails to your clients and prospects, you are spamming. In many states in US, there's a law that could charge you for spamming. Thus, always make sure that all your contacts in your mailing list have opted in and be sure to add the opt-out option in your campaigns.

3. Using commonly used subject line

When you're doing email marketing, you must consider your subject line as the 'headline' of your campaign. Do you think you can entice readers to click on your email and read it if you have a boring subject line? They would least likely to do so. So come up with an interesting yet relevant subject line.

4. False advertising

This is equivalent to false marketing. It's one of the worse mistakes an internet marketer could commit. Not only will it drive customers away, it can also damage the reputation of the business.

5. Providing broken links

Embedding links in your campaigns is considered crucial. Placing these links is as important as your campaign itself. Thus, it is necessary to make sure that there's no broken link in your article or email as this can be frustrating to clients and prospects.
